This is a very thought provoking article. Gratitude plays a huge role in my self care or wellness and I haven’t considered that it has negative side effects. I’m not really sure if I understand how gratitude could erase marginalized people…. I don’t see thinking “I’m so glad I’m not /don’t have it as bad as ___” as gratitude at all. It feels more like judgement to me.

While I have seen gratitude overused to the point that it is meaningless and even detrimental to individuals (ie. being grateful to an abuser) I don’t see how true gratitude, which at its essence is love, would harm society.

Thanks for sharing this perspective. I’m really intrigued and will be researching to learn more.
