The Pain of the Age

Pain seeps through her skin
beneath the purple bruises
and soaks into her heart.

She feels defiled and dire-
aching in the space separating
her flesh and bones.

She hurts for him-
his life is rough.
The least she can do is forgive
his latest mistake.
