On Taking Action
Even when I’m afraid
As a life coach, I tell my clients to take action. I guide them through that process. Since my aim is to be as authentic as possible in life and in work, I hold myself to the same standards that I hold my clients to.
I tell them they don’t need anyone’s permission to do the thing they want to do. For me, that meant I didn’t need anyone to tell me my writing was good enough to write a book. I didn’t even need to be successful on Medium or my blog before starting. I just did it.
I tell them to step out and do the thing they are afraid of. This week I have been promoting my e-book on social media. I’ve sent copies to acquaintances because my journey is about people reading my words even if I’m afraid of them seeing what I’ve written.
I tell them it doesn’t have to be perfect because nothing is perfect. This is hard because I didn’t find an editor for my e-book, and even my little sister hasn’t gotten back to me on what she thought of it much less the editing I’d hoped for. But I published it anyway, flaws and all. Because I’m imperfect. It’s imperfect. And that is okay.
I tell them not to look to others for validation but to only seek it from themselves. If they are doing things that align with their values and their goals then what anyone else thinks doesn’t matter. I haven’t…
